MatreyaA singer, songwriter, and visual artist

Being a Warrior is about cultivating the strength to keep your heart open, even when life gives you reasons to close it.
Matreya is a Birmingham-born singer, songwriter and visual artist whose practice explores the relationship between music, consciousness and the human experience. Describing his sound as “cinematic soul pop”, he blends soulful vocals, atmospheric production and global rhythms with striking visual storytelling and a distinctive sense of style.
First known as Mason Noise on The X Factor, his artistic journey has since become closely intertwined with reinvention, healing and self-discovery. His exploration of energy healing and work as a Reiki practitioner have shaped how he approaches music: through feeling, presence and intention. Lyrics become personal mantras, while rhythm, space and vocal expression create room for listeners to reflect, release emotion and reconnect with themselves.
That perspective runs through “Eagles”, “I Saw the Light” and “Be Love”, moving between vulnerability, resilience and celebration. METAL Magazine praised his voice for “carrying the weight of experience and the lightness of newfound freedom”. EARMILK described “I Saw the Light” as “a statement of survival and spiritual awakening”, while Illustrate Magazine recognised in “Be Love” a “sound that merges spirit and groove”.
Collaboration is another expression of this approach. On “Truth”, Matreya joins Lee Harris and composer Davor Bozic to explore the meeting point between uncertainty, hope and the future we create together. Across his music and imagery, his “Ancient Futurism” aesthetic brings earthy textures and spiritual symbolism into a contemporary, cinematic world.
For Matreya, creativity and personal transformation continually inform one another. His work translates that unfolding journey into something people can hear, see and feel.

Three questions
What have been your main inspirations on your path to becoming an artist and a creator?
"My father has undoubtedly been one of my greatest inspirations. Through his sacrifices, I was given the freedom to explore my creativity, and for that I’ll always be grateful.
From martial arts and music to acting and dance, he encouraged me to experience as much as possible. His philosophy was that being a jack of all trades was better than being a master of one.
Looking back, I realise how much that shaped me. I see all these disciplines as different expressions of the same creative force."
What role does community play in your life?
"Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to surround myself with a beautiful community of loving, creative people. We exchange ideas, support each other’s projects and inspire one another to grow.
One of my closest friends is actually my main photographer. There’s something special about creating with people who understand you so well that you don’t have to explain your vision. They just get it!"
What does becoming and being a Warrior of Light mean to you?
"Being a Warrior of Light might sound like something from a fictional universe, but to me it represents something deeply human.
It’s about cultivating the strength to keep your heart open, even when life gives you reasons to close it. To stand firmly in your values and boundaries without becoming rigid. Like light, the warrior learns to bend and adapt without losing their essence.
Ultimately, it’s about choosing love over fear and remaining conscious in a world that can easily sweep us away.
Not because you’ve never known darkness, but because you’ve learned to carry your own light through it."
