Our Story

Born out of adventure and self-discovery

VALO was born out of a shared passion for discovery of the self and the world, to find and express freedom in creativity, and to truly experience the spirit of adventure. We are a reflection of individuality, yet a celebration of a variety of cultures, colors, and stories from around the world.

Our journey began in 2012, when two lifelong friends, Arto and Lasse, set out from Finland to explore the world. After years of traveling across continents, collecting inspiration from small local beach towns to international festivals and conscious gatherings, they felt an unstoppable urge to create something meaningful, something that would stand apart from the ordinary, something that would have a positive impact on the world.

And so… VALO was born!

What “VALO” Means

In Finnish, VALO means Light.

A word that for us captures everything we stand for: awareness, courage, inspiration, and the joy of living a life of creation.  It’s the spark that drives us to keep discovering, connecting, and sharing our essence with the world.

What or who is a Warrior of Light?

The spirit of a Warrior of Light is the peak potential that resides within each and every one of us. It is the often unrealised deepest essence of our being, the power within us all, to feel and act in our highest possible capacity. To awaken the Light Warrior within you means to take on the challenge of the Hero’s journey, where you commit to the betterment of yourself and the whole world, with small steps and actions at a time.

To be a Warrior of Light simply means to be connected to your deepest and most genuine essence without fears, judgement or masks, and serve your own growth journey with the right decisions that have a positive impact on you and everyone and everything around you.

When you commit to becoming and being a Warrior of Light with every action you take, you feel empowered and inspired, and the shadows of your being won't keep dictating and distracting you anymore. You have become a servant of Truth and you have found Peace.

At VALO, we believe that everyone carries a unique light within them. Our mission is to inspire people to walk their own conscious path with courage, creativity, and freely expressing and sharing their true self with the world. We want our actions, designs, and lifestyle to encourage others to live authentically and realize their full potential.

Finnish Design handcrafted in Bali

Designed in Finland and crafted with care in Bali, our creations are made under happy and healthy conditions by skilled artisans. We use durable, natural, and environmentally friendly materials - because sustainability and respect for the planet are part of our dedicated mission. Our collections are more than just clothing; they are stories woven into fabric. They are made to empower anyone and everyone wearing them!

VALO Family and Our Global Tribe

 Over time, our core tribe has grown. Joonas, our lifelong dear brother, who has been supporting us throughout the years in various ways since the beginning, joined to expand the VALO vision as an equal partner. And our ever so lovely Customer Experience Manager, Paula, is the one who brings warmth and care to every interaction with our customers. 

We are also actively connected to many communities around the world especially in Finland, Bali, Portugal, Germany, U.K., Mexico, Thailand, sharing and making stories with our fellow Warriors of Light. We are nature lovers, passionate globe trotters, conscious party-goers, explorers, adventurers, and community builders, seekers of what really matters. 

Like the old Mayan saying goes “You are my other me”, In Lak'ech Ala K'in - we are all on this journey together!

We exist to create the finest natural clothing in the world - to make garments that travel with you, breathe with your being, and remind you of the power you carry within.

Every VALO piece is made by hand, with intention, by a family of master tailors we've worked alongside for over a decade. We honor every contributor in the chain: from the artisans who put our threads together, to the earth that gives us its materials. Nothing in our process is accidental but carefully chosen and respected by us.

We are building more than a clothing brand. We are growing a brotherhood - a tribe of artists, creators, seekers and change-makers committed to living with purpose and rising into their fullest expression. Our clothes are the armor to support you on your journey. The community is the HOME.

In a world racing toward the synthetic, the disposable, and the disconnection from self, we stand for the opposite: timeless craft, natural materials, deep relationships, and a quiet kind of power. The kind that is aware it but doesn't need to prove itself to others. The stand to be the reminder of how to stand in integrity as a human!
